Prevention of Blood-borne Virus Transmission in Haemodialysis Units

چکیده
GUIDELINES Screening Routine a. We recommend that all patients should be screened for hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus prior to commencement of dialysis or when transferring from another dialysis facility. The serological screening panel should include serology for hepatitis B (HBsAg, anti-HBc, antiHBs), and hepatitis C (anti-HCV) together with baseline liver function tests (1B). b. We recommend that patients be screened for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) if they are identified as having risk factors for HIV acquisition or have serological evidence of either hepatitis B or hepatitis C infection (1B). c. We recommend that patients who are hepatitis B vaccinated with anti-HBs ≥10 mIU/mL have anti-HBs rechecked annually. For vaccine non-responders, with anti-HBs titres <10 mIU/mL, recheck HbsAg every six months (1C). d. We recommend more frequent testing (every three months) in dialysis units with highprevalence of hepatitis B (1C). e. We recommend that those who are seronegative for hepatitis C have anti-HCV rechecked every six months. (1C).

Incidence and risk factors of hepatitis C virus infection in a haemodialysis unit.
BACKGROUND Hepatitis viruses have become one of the main infectious problems in patients on maintenance haemodialysis. The aim of this study was to prospectively investigate the incidence of de novo hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in a haemodialysis unit and to identify factors currently involved in HCV transmission to haemodialysis patients. METHODS One hundred and fourteen anti-HCV negati...
متن کاملSurvey of Blood Collection Centers and Implementation of Guidance for Prevention of Transfusion-Transmitted Zika Virus Infection--Puerto Rico, 2016.
Since November 2015, Puerto Rico has reported active mosquito-borne transmission of Zika virus. Because of the potential for Zika virus to be transmitted through transfusion of blood components, and because a high percentage of persons infected with Zika virus are asymptomatic, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended that blood collections cease in areas of the United States affected...
متن کاملHand Hygiene in Haemodialysis Units
Healthcare-associated infections are a major risk to patient safety. Infection is the first cause of hospitalisation and the second most common cause of mortality among haemodialysis (HD) patients. HD patients, as well as the dialysis staff, are vulnerable to contracting healthcare-associated infections due to frequent and prolonged exposures to many possible contaminants in the dialysis enviro...
متن کاملRisk factors for hepatitis C virus sero-positivity among haemodialysis patients receiving care at Kidney Centre in a tertiary health facility in Maiduguri, Nigeria
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an important health care problem in haemodialysis. Hepatitis C virus is both a cause and complication of kidney diseases. Yet there are limited information on antibody against HCV in patients on haemodialysis. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of anti-HCV and the risk factors associated with HCV infection in a cohort of 100 participants on haem...
متن کاملPrevalence of and risk factors for hepatitis G (HGV) infection in haemodialysis patients: a multicentre study.
BACKGROUND Hepatitis G virus (HGV) or GB-virus type C (GBV-C) is, like hepatitis C, a blood-borne virus and a member of the family of flaviviridae. HGV is distributed globally and is present in the volunteer blood donor population. Thus, for epidemiological reasons, HGV is of interest in haemodialysis patients, who are at risk of parenterally transmitted infections. The aim of the present inves...
